Hello there! My name is Maes Hughes, I'm a Lt. Colonel stationed in the investigations office in Central, but that's not important. What's important is this new photo album! Isn't my little girl just the cutest?! She takes after her lovely mother, of course.

[This is an independent RP blog for Maes Hughes from FMA, I do not own the character or any of the art posted unless otherwise stated. I usually rp Brotherhood!Maes, but 2003 can be done if you wish.]

A visit from Edith and Elysia [@elysia-hughes]

“I can relate I suppose, after having you I found myself wanting to do all these ‘childish’ things, both for myself and for you.” It wasn’t as if Maes had had a poor childhood, his family had merely been about average, earning enough to live comfortably, but not enough to vacation often.

He laughed, picturing the young man trying to go down the slide. “Yes, he is usually way too serious, maybe a waterpark ride would loosen him up a bit.” It wasn’t as though Maes thought Selim was all work and no play, simply that he was much more ‘contained’ than Maes. This was likely from his more formal upbringing.

“No kidding!” She laughed a little harder, “Can you imagine him going down a water slide in an inter tube with Edith? My goodness! It’s funny enough when he plays dolls with her.” Elysia relaxed a bit, “I’m excited for the lazy river. I could use a little relaxation.”

She placed a finger to her lips, “If I remember correctly, don’t the condos have a Jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom’s bathroom?” Elysia remembered how her parents would take a bath with her in it when she was little. “That’ll be nice too.”

"You’ll have to take Gracia with you when you go down the lazy river, you can leave Edith with Selim and I to spoil her, er, rather to watch her." It was pointless to try and cover the fact he spoiled his granddaughter to bits, any objection from Selim would fall on deaf ears.

"Oh yes, jacuzzis and all-you-can-eat buffets, I’m getting excited just thinking about it now. It’s too bad this won’t be for quite a while." He leaned back, sighing.

It was Mae’s turn to blush now, partly from his daughter’s comment about he and his wife, and partly from the fact there were rumors about Selim and Elysia. He did not want to even imagine that. Stopping himself from shuddering, he coughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head.

“Well, uh…’ He was grasping at straws, trying to find a way to change the subject, not wanting to dig himself a deeper grave. “…Selim has never been to a waterpark?” He inquired, trying to sound interested rather than desperate for a change of topic. “You’d think as the fuhrer’s kid, he’d have had a chance to go before.”

Elysia chuckled, knowing her father was changing the subject, “Yeah. Fuhrer Bradley passed away when he was still young, and Mrs. Bradley could never find the time to go.” She took a sip of her tea, “Though, he never really missed out on it. He did a lot of other traveling as well. Plus he read so much, going to a water park never seemed all that fun.

“Of course, all that changed after we had Edith. Suddenly, he wants to do all of the little things he missed out on due to his father’s death. It’s rather adorable.” She giggled, her emerald eyes sparkling. “The thought of Selim on a water slide is funny, don’t you think?”

Edith quickly began to wriggle about in his lap, already tired of sitting in one spot. Maes helped her off his lap and watched as she walked over to Elysia and sat near her feet, still tugging on the stuffed rabbit’s ears. “Hmm?” He looked up at Elysia, his attention back on her now. “Yes I think that’s where it was…Oh yes, that’s definitely where it was. It was the one with the ice cream shop with 30 different flavours.” He grinned, of course that would be how he remembered a park.

“Good on him for getting a promotion, that’s great!.” Maes gave an approving nod. He then chuckled “I’m not so sure he should be so eager, a promotion also means more paperwork to verify your new station.” He laughed at Elysia’s comment of letting him off work. “You should be careful though, people might start to think you’re up to something.” He winked at her, though a part of him cringed at making an innuendo about his daughter and her husband, even if they were married adults.

“Yeah! I miss that ice cream shop so much!” Elysia giggled softly, “I don’t think Selim has been to a water park, either. It’ll be fun to watch him and Edith discover the place. Selim’s favorite dessert is ice cream. He’ll love it!” She ran her fingers through her daughter’s hair lovingly, “And I make sure he stays humble, too.”

At her father’s innuendo, Elysia couldn’t help but blush a deep crimson red. “D-Dad!” She looked away. “W-We’re more responsible than that.” The twenty-four year old rolled her eyes, trying to play off his joke cooly. “I understand what you mean, though. We already have some nasty rumors going around Central. We do out best to ignore them.”

A smirk played across her lips, “Besides, I heard a story about you and Mother back when she first visited you in Central.”

It was Mae’s turn to blush now, partly from his daughter’s comment about he and his wife, and partly from the fact there were rumors about Selim and Elysia. He did not want to even imagine that. Stopping himself from shuddering, he coughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head.

“I’m sure he’d also appreciate the break from piles of paperwork.” Even though it was still relatively early in the year, with a chill still in the wind, Maes couldn’t pull his mind from the vision of a beautiful beach trip with his family.

The family man pulled Edith up onto his lap, replying to her request with a sincere “yes, your majesty.” Elysia thought he spoiled her too much by treating her like a princess, but that’s what grandparents were supposed to do in his opinion. Edith held the rabbit close to her, petting its ears. Maes smiled warmly at it, remembering how Elysia had done the same as a child.

Elysia smiled, resting a finger to her lips, “If I remember correctly, isn’t there a water park by Northrop Beach?” She reached out, taking a sip of the warm tea her mother brought out earlier. “When we go, I think it should be in 3 months. That way it’s warm, and things aren’t as hectic in the office. Less people are sick for me, and less paperwork for Selim.” The 24 year old let out a little giggle.

“Oh!” Elysia began, “Did I tell you guys Selim got promoted last Wednesday? He’s a Lieutenant in his platoon now.” She smiled widely, “That’s one of the reasons why he was anxious to get back to work. Just being promoted, he didn’t want to look like a slacker. Lucky for him, though, I’m a doctor and I can excuse him since he has a fever.”

He rubbed his chin, thinking of the various beach houses near the coast that offered 2-in-1 buildings so that families could stay in the same house but still have individual privacy between the two. He couldn’t help but to let loose a small sly grin when Elysia guaranteed alone time between himself and his wife. “I think it’s a marvelous plan!” Maes replied enthusiastically.

At his daughter’s signal, he pulled the camera from his pocket. This was one of his few prized possessions, Gracia had bought it for him as soon as it hit the stores, for it was the newest kind of camera and was much more compact and easier to use. Trying not to attract Edith’s attention, he raised the camera to his eye, ready to take the shot.

Elysia smiled widely when her parents agreed to the trip. After she calmed Edith down, and her father got an abundance of photographs, she sat back down on the sofa. “It’ll be a lot of fun!” She let out a small giggle, “We should go sometime in the next few months. I’m sure Selim will appreciate having time off from work that doesn’t include blowing his nose every five minutes.”

She leaned back just as Edith approached Maes, holding a small stuffed rabbit that used to belong to Elysia as a child. “Papaw,” The toddler held her hands up in a request to sit in his lap, “Up, up!” She flexed her fingers in and out for emphasis.

"I’m sure he’d also appreciate the break from piles of paperwork." Even though it was still relatively early in the year, with a chill still in the wind, Maes couldn’t pull his mind from the vision of a beautiful beach trip with his family.
